What to do with the cracks on rotary kiln

1. Preventive measures of longitudinal cracks
The main reason of rotary kiln longitudinal crack is because of the lack of rigidity, over-large temperature and the additional stress, etc. So in the design and manufacture of rotary kiln process, the thickness of the kiln body should be increased appropriately.
According to the relevant information, the lower thickness of the kiln tube body should not be less than 1.5% of nominal diameter, the bloc thickness of the floating plate should not be greater than 50% of kiln tube, and the block width is less than 200mm, so as to reduce inhomogeneous stress and temperature stress caused by the tube deformation.

2 Preventive measures of circular cracks
To prevent the circular cracks, enough consideration should be taken into the kiln tube thickness during design and manufacture. The transition section thickness should be close to the average thickness between the thicknees under kiln tyre and the thicknees of middle section, so as to facilitate the smooth deformation, and reduce the stress concentration.

3. Preventive measures of cracks on rotary kiln transition zone
The main reason for the cracks on the transitional zone is that the kiln tube becomes thin because of the corrosion of the alkaline gas and alkaline material. Therefore, we must firstly make the isolation between alkaline materials and metal kiln tube.

4. Other measurments
For example: protect the kiln coating; protect the refractory bricks; prevent the tube temperature from uneven or too high; ensure the mechanical properties of shell material; ensure the straight speed in running state of kiln tube to reduce the additional load; normally control up-and-down speed of kiln, and so on.

It is advanced that perform test on central lin and tube wall thickness every year, and reduce additonal load of rotary kiln to extend service life of kiln.
